Monodrama Duende starring Tatiana Lolova
based on texts by Lorca, R. Apostolova, and others.
An evening with the queen of Bulgarian theatre!
The play was created in 2003 (it premiered on 18th October) by the director Sunny Suninski. The stage design is by Vecheslav Parapanov. Even to this day, the play is regularly performed in Sofia and benefits from an enviably large audience, mainly due to the amazing talent and personality that is the actress Tatiana Lolova.
Tatiana Lolovas mono-drama draws you in with its unforgiving portrayal of an opera singer in at the peak of her career. Humour and sorrow are the main characteristics of the performance. Tatiana shapes the character of her heroine with the humour known and loved by many a Bulgarian audience; a humour which has transformed itself into a symbol of her incomparable talent. Behind the everyday events portrayed by the actress lays the significant question of the price which an artist, and every other person, must pay in order to achieve that moment of perfection and success, which Lorca explores and calls Duende.
