About the Theatre:
Founded in 1946 by Mara Penkova with her own resources, the first puppet theatre in Bulgaria was able to attend a large amount of public attention. Only two years later, the theatre received state funding and was pronounced the first state professional theatre of its kind in Bulgaria. The stage of the theatre has seen almost 300 different titles since then.
The first international appearance of the theatre was in 1958 in Bucharest and only two years later, it won the Originality & Imagination Award at the Second International Puppet Festival in Bucharest for the show Petya & the Wolf by Sergey Prokofiev, with directors Atanas Ilkov and Nikolina Georgieva.
Quality entertainment for children and younger audiences true professionalism and 60 years of wonderful creativity this is the motto of the theatres performers. The creative production of the theatre has delved into every genre and style from puppet miniatures to musical storytelling, pantomime, the theatre of shadows, comedy, satire, the grotesque and epic heroism plays.
The theatre annually maintains over 20 plays in its repertoire and performs more than 500 shows, as well as preparing up to 6 new plays every season, thus providing high quality performances for audiences amounting to over 50,000 people per year.
The company has won over the hearts and trust of its audiences, in addition to numerous national and international awards, building a reputation for itself as able to obtain top creative and professional achievements.
