CONCERT – PERFORMANCE: “Antarctic Tales”

Bulgarian Cultural Institute London is pleased to invite you to the concert-performance “Antarctic Tales”, with the participation of the virtuoso of the kavala Theodosii Spassov and the great Bulgarian actress Boyka Velkova.

The event is part of the program of the Month of Bulgarian Culture, which the Bulgarian Cultural Institute London organises.

In 2020, during the 28th expedition to Livingstone Island, in West Antarctica, one of the most famous ambassadors of Bulgarian culture in the world, the musician Theodosii Spassov participated in the creation of a unique project of its kind, after which it was realized and Antarctic Tales music album. Together with guitarist Hristiyan Tsviatkov, they formed the first musical duo to play on the Ice Continent and were the first musicians to create and record music there. Days later, the two performed in front of an audience in Antarctic waters, aboard the Spanish military research vessel Esperides, sailing in the Bransfield Strait.

The concert-performance that you will see in London is a kind of continuation, which will present music from the album of the same name “Antarctic Tales”, composed and recorded on the Ice Continent.

There are 12 pieces in the show and they are composed in the style of jazz, folklore and classical music. Some of the titles of the compositions are: “Dance with Penguins”, “Lame Dog”, “Wolf’s Bay”, “I Can Wait for You Forever”, “Drake’s Tigers”, “Thirst for Freedom”, “The Stone Dweller” and others.

Actress and director Boyka Velkova will also take part in the event, with actor Lyubomir Kovachev as her partner. They will perform popular classic tales and poems that will contribute to recreating the unique atmosphere of the Ice Island. The poetry that will sound during the performance will include works from different eras, and some of the authors whose texts the audience will hear are: Jacques Préver, William Shakespeare, Mirela Ivanova, Valentina Radinska, Hans Christian Andersen, Fan Gan, Friedrich Hebel , Mevliana Rumi, Stefan Tsanev, Pablo Neruda and others.
