When Bulgaria Hit the Headlines:
British war artists in Bulgaria 1854-1905

An exhibition of almost one hundred plates taken from the illustrated weeklies The Graphic and The Illustrated London News, published between the Crimean War and 1905, and charting part of Bulgarias painful progress towards independence.
The Exhibition is made up of prints kindly loaned by Dr. Annie Kay and is being mounted to mark Bulgaria’s National Day, 3rd March, held to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of San Stefano by Russia and Turkey in March 1878.
The programme for the evening will include:
– An introductory talk by guest speaker Dr. Simon Anglim
– Poetry recitals by children from the Bulgarian School as part of the Bulgarian
Embassy
– Explanatory materials written and researched by Prof. Michael Holman
