Online! From vandal to art

This Thursday, 23.09.2021, from 18:00 GMT, we are pleased to present “From vandalism to art | From vandal to art”.

 

Graffiti art is complex and multi-layered, so it evolved from the street to the most prestigious galleries, museums and private collections in the world.

On September 1, 2021 at 7 pm – in the capital’s Doza Gallery, opened the exhibition From vandal to art, which presented 13 Bulgarian and 7 Dutch artists, curated by Dutch street art legend Nash and the team of Sofia Graffiti Tour.

The event presents a different reading of street art, at the initiative of the Sofia Graffiti Tour and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bulgaria, which is also the main sponsor. The exhibition aims to show that urban street art has a rebellious spirit and rich artistic value – both when it transforms abandoned urban spaces and brings life back to them, and when more and more often today it reaches the prestigious collections of patrons and galleries of contemporary art. .

Curators of the exhibition are Nash and the team of Sofia Graffiti Tour (Tsvetan Bizev, Stella Kamenova and Nikolay Bizev).

Nash is a Dutch street art legend whose style has become recognizable thanks to numerous projects around the world over the past 30 years. His work is known to the Bulgarian public through his participation in the graffiti festival “Sofia Graffiti Battle” in 2019.

“With this project we want to show a selection of Dutch, but also native artists who definitely deserve their place of honor in the galleries and homes of collectors. Through their art, they also have the power to spread messages and causes. This is also the goal of our exhibition From vandal to art, which opens the topic of the place of street art in high art in our country “, adds Stella Kamenova from Sofia Graffiti Tour.

 

The selected participants in the exhibition are examples from different generations and stages in the development of street art. What connects them is the strong message and added value that each of them leaves in our environment.

Among the Bulgarian artists are Arsek & Erase, Chan Clan, Felon, GRTS, MAD, Mr. Aо, Nasimo, Rate, Rays, Sten, Ster, Wion, Xpome. The Dutch are Dphazer, Erwtje, JDL, MR June, Nash, Serge, Turmoil.

 

From vandal to art will present their paintings, spray-painted, acrylic and oil paints, prints, installations.
