Bulgarian Cultural Institute London is delighted to invite you to Jazz Concert & Exhibition “The Colours of Music” by Marinella Pashova
Marinella is a true and original talent. She has studied music ever since childhood. As she likes to say herself “I started singing before I was able to speak!” Born to musically passionate parents, lovers of classical and opera, she has had a sophisticated musical influence and love for all the arts from a very early age followed by formal musical education, studying piano for nine years.
Her first jazz attempts as a solo singer date back to her early student years, when she opens her musical horizons, getting to know people from the jazz and cabaret circles. The young performer learns from the best – her idols are Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin, and they became her virtual vocal coaches. Many staged acting and singing performances lead to Marinella developing her own style and presence, her own stage signature. In the space of a few years, Marinella is firmly on the national music scene. In amongst her achievements are televised performances with the national Big Band orchestra, local and international music contests and festivals, where she claims top prizes. Throughout her career, Marinella has performed in numerous venues around Europe, as a soloist as well as in collaboration with other musicians, which has given her a chance to experiment with different styles and sounds.
In recent years, the singer lives in London, where she has had many opportunities to meet and work with great musicians, to expand her repertoire and enrich her portfolio with a number of styles of music. She has completed her Professional music performance bachelor’s degree at Academy of contemporary music London (2020). Her latest passion is Latin, or more precisely Cuban music, where the richness of rhythms and the abundance of styles fascinate her. Her performances in Santiago de Cuba, were very well received, which has inspired her to strengthen her musical tights with Cuba, the cradle of Cuban son.
As much as Marinella stays true to her creative style, she loves experimenting and exploring. The music isn’t enough for Marinella to express her outlook on life and her emotions, so she reaches out to the world with her usually large acrylic paintings on canvas. The energy in her work is influenced strongly by her passion for her music and her travels around the world. As an accomplished artist you can see how she works intuitively in both genres. She uses bright, vibrant colours – in unison with her favourite music genres: Jazz, Cuban bolero and Brazilian bosa-nova. Vivid, uplifting works, made with a big artistic scope.
Marinella starts her art experience by using high end make up on paper in the first decade of 21st century. In her works she uses Dior, Chanel, Lancome make-up colours to create soft and romantic looks of her paintings. It is her unique invention to use this media and technique. Next period of Marinella’s artistic biography starts by experimenting with fluid acrylic pouring, creating bright and colourful paintings on different bases. Abstract is the big passion of Marinella, as she finds that in this style, she can expresses herself in a best way: her love for music, shapes, colours and most importantly freedom!
Since 2022 Marinella actively takes part of numerous exhibitions in London and abroad. Her new aim is to combine her music and her art in one performance. The cosmopolitan persona of a creator with her multicultural influences, her high professional standards and talent make her a versatile modern artist, who brings style, tradition and depth to her music and art has an appeal to a very wide audience.
Tonight she will present for you a selection of favourite jazz standards and Cuban bolero songs, performed in her unique style in the background of her life-affirming bright, colourful canvases. Enjoy this synchronicity. The accompaniment is by the well-known Cuban musician in London: Sergio Marciano, a musical director of The Latin bridge band based in London, who played in many venues around Cuba and Europe with a lots of big names in Latin and jazz music.
