Snezhana Popova-Poppy uses photography as her primary tool in her research for unique attractive compositions and settings of her subject matter, of which she then uses in her studio where she continues with the creation of painting on her canvases. She chooses to paint with either oil or acrylic on canvas as her main choice of mediums.
It is her father who inspired Snezhana at an early age to create and share her version of our world through her paintings. She says that : “My father, Lyuben Popov, was a photographer, pioneer researcher and adventurer”. As a keen traveller and explorer herself, she likes to document her adventures before she chooses a specific narrative to paint. Snezhana is passionate about painting the transparency and activity of water and how light reflects on the surface of it during different times of the day and how the different environment impacts on it. Her Seascapes and River Paintings carry a unique contemporary impressionist quality and her own style.
Snezhana Popova says for herself: “In my school years I was preparing for admission first to art school, then applying to the Art Academy. At that time I had a big passion for animation, but Fate had other plans-family, children, home and career. However, my soul always wanted to draw.
Throughout my life I have created, handcrafted objects out of my imagination, soul and hands to bring joy to people. With my works I have participated in New Year and Easter bazaars organized in NDK-Sofia. I organized training courses in decoupage, decorating and painting. Many of my works are in private collections. After settling in London in 2016, I switched mainly to oil painting.
With the advent of internet technology and digital photography, graphic design, I have been able to combine these and incorporate it painting. I am constantly improving and implementing my creative skills into art, design and craft. I use different techniques and materials when creating paintings or objects. Illustrative and graphic design are also part of my art.”
