Ellie Yonova was born in Sofia, Bulgaria.

She graduated from the Moscow Film Institute, majoring in cinematography for film and TV. In 1999 she moved to Canada and settled in Newfoundland.

She has worked as a Director of Photography for many European, Canadian and American producers both in feature films and television documentaries. Her works were screened on festivals nationally and internationally and have brought many awards to her credit.

Photography is her first love that she never abandoned. She was taking pictures around the world wherever her work took her. Since moving to Canada, she started experimenting with abstract photography. Gradually she developed a style of her own photographing light, glass and water. In 2006 she had her debut show in her native Bulgaria. In 2007 her images were part of the photography based show The Big Picture at Christina Parker’s Gallery in St.John’s.
