Synopsis:
“Away from the shore” is based on Evgeny Kuzmanov’s novel “Seagulls Far from the Shore” censored before 1989, defined as an outright satire of the totalitarian regime. The Bulgarian-Ukrainian co-production is an interpretation of the relationship between the artist and censorship.
The story happened 40 years ago. Or before 30… Some people claim that the amazing things that are talked about in the movie can happen now. A talented theater director, banished from the capital for two years, was sent to a small provincial theater, where he wanted to stage a play that obsessed his thoughts. It speaks of people who are constantly monitored and live in constant fear of punishment. Gradually, the nightmares of the play began to carry over into the life of the troupe.
