“Garbage for Plums” by the State Puppet Theatre Burgas

November 30th and December 1st, 2024, 14:00 PM

The Bulgarian Cultural Institute London is pleased to invite you to the puppet monodrama “Garbage for Plums” by the State Puppet Theatre Burgas.

‘Garbage for Plums’ is a non-text based production with puppets for kids and families. It is a full of humor show questioning from contemporary point of view ‘the old-fashioned social values’ from the past like the role of women in a traditional marriage etc. It is based on a Bulgarian folklore fairytale about a man who wanted to find a good housewife for himself. He chose a rather strange but a funny way to do it. He went with his donkey from village to village, and offered an exchange of nice fresh juicy plums for house garbage. Lots of women came with piles of dirt, thinking that the man is crazy. At the very end a girl came without garbage because in her house she could not find any – her home was very clean. The man was happy and asked her to become his bride.

The puppets are operated by actress Desislava Mincheva, who is also responsible for the musical arrangement.

So far, the production has been performed over 300 times at festivals and on tours in Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Germany, Turkey, Israel, Spain, India, the Netherlands, Belgium, the USA, Sweden, Russia, China, and Peru.
