Special guest: Kristin Dimitrova

Kristin Dimitrova (born May 1963 in Sofia, Bulgaria) is a poet, writer and translator. Graduated in English and American Studies from the Sofia University, Dimitrova now teaches at the Department of Foreign Languages there. In the period 2004-2006 she was an editor of Art Trud, the weekly supplement for arts and culture of the Trud Daily, and in 2007 she was a columnist for the Klasa Daily. Dimitrova holds a Doctoral Degree in journalism and mass communications. She has participated into numerous author readings in New York, Chicago, Paris, Hague, Berlin, Cork, Stuttgard, Brno, Prague, Skopje, Barcelona, Brussels, Luxembourg and other.

She is the author of 12 books of poetry among which are: Jacob’s Thirteenth Child (1992), A Face Under the Ice (1997), Closed Figures (1998), Faces with Twisted Tongues (1998), Talisman Repairs (2001), The People with the Lanterns (2003), The Cardplayer’s Morning (2008, translated into Czech), The Garden of Expectations and the Opposite Door (2012) and Dear Passengers (2018). A Visit to the Clockmaker (2005) was published by Southword Editions, Ireland, and My Life in Squares (2010) by Smokestack Books, UK.

Among her works of fiction are the novel Sabazius (2007, translated and published in Mexico, Russia and Romania) and three short stories collections: Love and Death under the Crooked Pear Trees (2004), The Secret Way of the Ink (2010, translated into Macedonian) and Give Me a Call When You Arrive (2017).

She has translated into English The Anagram (1999), selected poetry by John Donne and The Hunting of the Snark (2013) among others.

Poems, stories and literary proceedings of Kristin Dimitrova has been translated into German, English, Armenian, Russian, Hebrew, Arabic, Icelandic, Catalan, Italian, French, Chinese, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Spanish, Polish, Romanian, Slovenian, Slovakian, Serbian, Turkish, Hungarian, Dutch, Croatian, Czech, Swedish, Greek, Persian languages and published in anthologies and literary journals in Austria, UK, Armenia, Belourussia, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Greece, Israel, Iceland, Italy, Jordan, Canada, China, Macedonia, Mexico, New Zealand, Croatia, Czech republic and many others.

Dimitrova is a winner of many awards for poetry among which are (the last one being the biannual “Ivan Peychev” 2019 for Dear Passengers), four for fiction (“Peroto” 2018 for Give Me a Call When You Arrive is the most recent one) and two for special achievement in poetry translation (for The Anagram, selected poetry by John Donne and The Hunting of the Snark by Lewis Carroll).
