Poetry Recital and Discussion “Penyo Penev: known and unknown”
Join us tonight to a poetry evening commemorating the work of Bulgaria’s dearly beheld Penyo Penev (1930-1959). On the 85th anniversary of his birthday, we will have orators reading his poetry, musicians playing music especially created to some of his verses and dedicated to him, listen to recordings of his own recitals, and discuss his life and works.
Penyo Penev was a tragic revolutionary and a contributor to the Socialist Realist movement in Literature in Bulgaria, active from the year 1947 until 1959, when he committed suicide. During his short life, he released two books of poetry, and a third anthology was released posthumously. He was recognized for his timeless contribution to Bulgarian poetry only after his death.
With the special guests Zdravka Vladova-Momcheva – poet and writer,
Dr. Dobromir Dimitrov – theologian and
Dr. Devorina Gamalova – musical setting
