Contemporary Dimensions of the European Educational and Scientific Environment. Bulgarian-British Cultural Interactions
Travelling international scientific seminars (to European countries like Italy, Austria, Spain, France and the Czech Republic) have become a hallmark of the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies. The seminars aim at establishing contacts and exchange of experience with leading European educational, cultural and scientific institutions. The seminars that have been held so far have been organized with the courtesy of Bulgarian diplomatic missions and cultural representatives in Rome, Vienna, Barcelona, Paris and Prague. Hosts of these events have been prestigious educational institutions like The Sorbonne, The University of Barcelona, The Theresianum in Vienna, The Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Prague and the Karlovy University in the Czech Republic.
In the period between the 25th 31st May 2013 in London, England, the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies will be holding its 6th traditional International Scientific Seminar, entitled Contemporary Dimensions of the European Educational and Scientific Environment. Bulgarian-British Cultural Interactions. There are three sections to the seminar:
Section ? Libraries, Books and Society;
Section ?? Informing science;
Section ??? Cultural Heritage.
The official opening of the seminar will be on 27th May 2013 in the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in London. During their stay, the representatives of the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies will visit the British Museum, the British Library, Oxford University and Thompson Reuters, where they will aim to acquaint themselves with the experience of their foreign colleagues and their professional activities.
In 2012 in Prague, the Czech Republic, the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies held its 5th Traditional Scientific Seminar dedicated to the 250th Anniversary of the writing of Istoria Slavianobulgarskaya /The History of Slavs and Bulgarians/ by Paisiy Hilendarsky and the Day of the Bulgarian Education and Culture and the Slavonic Literature. The official opening of the scientific seminar was held in the building of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute. During their stay in Prague, the representatives of the university visited the National Library of the Czech Republic, the Orthodox Cathedral St. St. Cyril and Methodius and other scientific and cultural institutions in Prague related to the nature of the educational and scientific activity of the university.
In 2011 the international seminar was held in Paris, France, as the official opening was held in the main building of the Sorbonne. Stoyan Denchev and Irena Petevas book Culture de transparence: Societe, information, bibliotheques published by one of the biggest and most famous French publishers Harmattan was presented during the opening of the seminar. The seminar itself was held in the Interuniversity Library of the Sorbonne.
In 2010 the scientific seminar was held in Barcelona, Spain and was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Bulgarian-Spanish diplomatic relations. The opening took place in the Aula of the Rectorate of the University of Barcelona. Welcoming addresses were extended by Mrs Adela Pedret Clemente, an honorary consul of the Republic of Bulgaria in Barcelona and the Management of the university.
In 2009 the seminar was in Vienna, Austria and the official opening took place in the library of the Theresianum. The section sessions were hosted by the Office of Trade and Economic Affairs at the Ministry of economy of Bulgaria.
In 2008 the first international seminar of ULSIT was held in Italy together with the Bulgarian orthodox municipality St. St. Cyril and Methodius in close co-operation with the Catholic university community in Rome. The opening was honored by official representatives of the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Sovereign Maltese Order and the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Italy.
During the seminars in different European countries, the representatives of the University of Library studies and Information Technologies try to contribute to the additional promotion of the Bulgarian presence and the place of Bulgarian spirituality in Europe, as well as help create a positive image of Bulgaria as a stable partner in the international scientific, educational and cultural policy. Besides, the university successfully promotes the achievements of the Bulgarian science and culture thus contributing to the awareness of values in the cultural diversity of Europe.
