“My name is Minko”

Film – a confession about Prof. Minko Balkanski’s journey from his birthplace in Bulgaria to Paris and his achievements in science

Synopsis:

Paris and Forges Normandy. A story – a confession about the long journey of a little boy from the village of Oryahovitsa to the dream of being a great world scientist. About the letters of his wise father, about the difficult moments in which he was followed by the communist authorities, about the achievements in science and giving for the sake of the future. Shared reflections on a lifetime full of meaning and accomplishments and dreams coming true.

Minko Balkanski entered the Sofia University as a student at the age of 15. And the following year, he left Bulgaria alone by train and with a fake passport, following his dream of becoming a world-renowned physicist. He became a doctor of sciences and a professor of physics in France at the age of 28, and to this day he is a professor emeritus at the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris, at the University of California, Irvine, at MIT Cambridge, Massachusetts.

To this day, Prof. Minko Balkanski visits Bulgaria every year to present medals and prizes to students who have excelled in Olympiads and world competitions and to lead the learning center for talented Bulgarian children.

Prof. Minko Balkanski is the biggest contemporary donor in the education of Bulgaria.

To this day, he is considered one of the most famous scientists in the field of physics worldwide.

Today Prof. Minko Balkanski is 97 years old and does not stop helping the children of Bulgaria.
