 The Bulgarian Cultural Institute London cordially invites you to the opening of the photography exhibition “Snow Spectres” by Meirion Harries, dedicated to Sir Neville Marriner, the great English conductor, who supported music in Bulgaria.

The history of Bulgaria is many layered, each layer disappearing under each succeeding layer. This exhibition of photography by Meirion Harries shows the last layer, the socialist era, disappearing beneath the first snows of winter.

Meirion has created haunting, spectral images of snow covered statues from the socialist decades that echo the challenge of  Ozymandias, an Egyptian Pharaoh who thought himself immortal – ‘Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!’ By showing a past era disappearing, the images together form a meditation on what it means to be Bulgarian today.

The exhibition is dedicated to Sir Neville Marriner, the great English conductor, who supported music in Bulgaria. The photographer Meirion Harries will donate proceeds from the exhibition in Sir Neville’s name to the National School of Arts “Prof.Vesselin Stoyanov” – Rousse, Bulgaria.

The exhibition will remain at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute London until the 13th of December, 2019, and can be visited between 10 am – 4 pm daily.
